XXL Freshman Class Roundtable: Part 1 (Kidd Kidd, Tink, Raury & K Camp)

In the first installment of XXL's Freshman Class roundtable discussions, Kidd Kidd, Tink, Raury, and K Camp sit around and talk about the future of hip-hop, their rising fame, and much more. The roundtable discussions are my favorite part of the XXL Freshman Class experience, and they do not disappoint.

Tink- "Million" (Music Video)

Tink may be the most versatile artist in this year's XXL Freshman Class. The R&B artist has revealed the music video for her hit song, "Million," which very masterfully samples Aaliyah's song, "One In A Million." It's hard not to be a fan of Tink after seeing the colorful video she presents here. Check it out above.

XXL Freshman Class Cyphers: Part 3 (Dej Loaf, Fetty Wap & Shy Glizzy)

XXL has released the last cypher from this year's freshman class. Dej Loaf, Fetty Wap and Shy Glizzy 'wax poetic' over a calm, slow-tempo beat. Dej Loaf was decent and takes the crown in this cypher by default as Fetty Wap and Shy Glizzy failed to deliver much to think about. Check it out above.

My Rating: Dej Loaf > Shy Glizzy and Fetty Wap

XXL Freshman Class Cyphers: Part 2 (GoldLink, OG Maco & Vince Staples)

Part 2 of XXL's Freshman Class cyphers features GoldLink, OG Maco and Vince Staples going in over a dope beat by DJ Don Cannon. Both Vince Staples and GoldLink were very impressive. Stay tuned for the remaining cypher coming soon.

My Rating: Vince Staples > GoldLink > OG Maco

XXL Freshman Class Cyphers: Part 1 (Kidd Kidd, K Camp, Tink & Raury)

The first installment of this year's XXL Freshman Class Cyphers has arrived. DJ Drama is once again on the turntables and mixes a different type of beat than what we're used to in these sessions. Kidd Kidd, K Camp, Tink and Raury round out the first cypher and they all bring their own type of flavor to the mic. Check it out above.

My Rating: Raury > Tink > Kidd Kidd & K Camp

Raury, Goldlink & Vince Staples (XXL Freshman Class Freestyles)

The next installment of XXL's Freshman Class freestyles features Raury, Goldlink, and Vince Staples. They decide to take a traditional route with their freestyles, laying down some fierce bars for the camera. They've set a high bar for their remaining classmates as they all delivered top notch verses. Enjoy.

Fetty Wap & Dej Loaf (XXL Freshman Class Freestyles)

XXL's Freshman Class season is a busy time. The inductees perform freestyles, cyphers, roundtable discussions and more. Needless to say, they receive a lot of exposure. The first two freestyles of this year's class have now been released. Fetty Wap and Dej Loaf are up first, and they deliver a couple safe verses that don't really showcase much of their ability. Hopefully, the rest of the freshmen show us something special. Enjoy.

XXL Unveils The 2015 Freshman Class

It's that time of year again. XXL has chosen their annual 'Freshman Class.' The class is rounded out by ten individuals this year: Raury, K Camp, Goldlink, Fetty Wap, OG Maco, Dej Loaf, Tink, Shy Glizzy, Vince Staples, and Kidd Kidd. I don't have many complaints this year; this is a well balanced group. Stay tuned for the annual cyphers and roundtable discussions. I look forward to getting to know this crew a little better. Check out the photo shoot below. Enjoy.

Earlier this week, Game released a song called “Bigger Than Me,” another step taken in the beef between him and Lil Durk. I won’t get into how this beef started as it deals with Tyga, Chief Keef, and more. XXL has a nice timeline of the beef here. Anyway, Game revealed the video for the song where he rips an XXL Freshman Class magazine in half so it looks like this beef won’t be dying soon. Regardless, this song features Game spitting with more fire than I’ve heard in a long time and I think that’s when he’s at his best. So we’ll see where this goes. Enjoy.

XXL 2014 Freshman Class Roundtable (Parts 1 & 2)

The XXL Freshman Class Roundtable discussions are one of my favorite parts of the XXL season. Featured above are parts 1 (Kevin Gates, Chance The Rapper, Vic Mensa, Isaiah Rashad & August Alsina) and 2 (Rich Homie Quan, Ty Dolla $ign & Lil Durk). They all discuss hip-hop and how it is categorized in the media and otherwise and how they view hip-hop. Stay tuned for updates on the last installment. Enjoy.

Sorry guys, Orange Is The New Black put me out of commission for a few days haha. XXL has released the last installment of their Freshmen Class Cypher. This one sees Jon Connor, Jarren Benton, Lil Bibby and Troy Ave spitting bars over a DJ Drama beat. Jon Connor and Jarren Benton brought some serious lyricism to the table and I was impressed by Lil Bibby. His flow was composed; I might have to check him out. He also spit the most hilarious line when he dissed the XXL Freshmen right in front of them haha. “I want the cover why the fuck I gotta sit with them?! The whole world know these boys can’t compare to him.” Troy Ave was disappointing. Enjoy.

XXL just dropped off Part 1 of their 2014 Freshman Class Cyphers. Part 1 sees Kevin Gates and Vic Mensa dropping some verses to start with DJ Drama on the beat. August Alsina then drops a hook which is something new to the cyphers as they’ve added R&B artists this year. Isaiah Rashad and Chance the Rapper then finish the cypher off. It was decent. I’d have to go with Vic and Isaiah as my favorites. Enjoy.
