Top 15 Albums/Mixtapes of 2015

It has been a pretty great year for hip-hop and R&B fans. Kendrick Lamar delivered yet another classic album. Dr. Dre delivered his final album and it was impressive. Janet Jackson returned with a very cohesive effort. Adele returned from her four-year hiatus to dominate the charts and that's just the beginning. As 2015 comes to an end, it is important to reflect on those projects that made a lasting impression. The following list represents my favorite hip-hop and R&B albums/mixtapes from 2015. Unlike my Top 40 list, I also tried my best to rank these albums based on their merit. I hope you enjoy the list and these projects as much as I did. I'll see you in 2016!

The Internet- "Get Away" (Music Video)

Not many artists have had as good a year as The Internet. They released their latest project, Ego Death, and it TOOK OFF. They have now released the music video for the first track on the album, "Get Away." This is the second set of visuals they've released for Ego Death and they just keep getting better. They're a band that really captures your attention because of their talent and energy, so you'll definitely want to keep up with them.

You can also check out their visuals for the KAYTRANADA-assisted track, "Girl," here.

The Internet & Lianne La Havas (NPR Tiny Desk Concerts)

NPR's "Tiny Desk Concert" series is pretty amazing. They take artists and place them in a small room where they perform a short set for an intimate crowd. It always allows us to appreciate artists that can deliver amazing live performances. In the latest installments, both The Internet and Lianne La Havas perform three songs and they sound great. Check them out above.

The Internet Announce New Album & Release New Single

The Internet—an extension of Odd Future consisting of Syd the Kid, Matt Martians, and more— have announced that they will be releasing a new album on June 30th. Ego Death will feature Janelle Monae, Vic Mensa, and more. They have released a single from the project, "Special Affair," and it is amazing. It's a slow jam even your parents' parents would shimmy too. Haha check out the tracklist above and listen to "Special Affair" below. Enjoy.

Jhené Aiko- "Enter The Void" Tour

Jhené Aiko has announced her headlining "Enter The Void" Tour and it will feature SZA and The Internet. Only one date has been announced so far but stay tuned and keep checking the 'Tour Dates' tab for updates. Enjoy.

12/12- Los Angeles, CA- Club Nokia

UPDATE: Jhené Aiko has updated the tour dates for her "Enter The Void" Tour with SZA and The Internet. Check out the dates below.

Syd Tha Kyd from Odd Future, (and The Internet in this video), has a beautiful voice. She and Matt Martian make up The Internet. They visited The Queen Latifah Show to perform their “feel good” track, “Dontcha,” off of their Feel Good album and it was incredible. I had no idea how good Syd sounded and how good the music they make is. I will definitely be checking out their album which has been out for a few months. You can stream it and purchase it; just hit the links. Enjoy.
