Drake- "How About Now"

So, a new song from Drake has appeared online; I'm not sure if this was a throwaway from Nothing Was The Same or if this is a leaked track from his upcoming album, Views From The 6. Either way, Drake pretty much stayed in his lane here: talking about a girl that rejected him and how he's stunting now. But that doesn't mean it's not good; it's just familiar. The beat is amazing as it samples Jodeci's "My Heart Belongs To You" and Drake delivers some nice verses. Stay tuned  for more on this upcoming album. Enjoy.

Top 10 Albums/Mixtapes of 2013

After MUCH deliberation, and some late nominations, I have compiled my list of top ten albums/mixtapes from this past year. 2013 was an amazing year for music in general, especially hip-hop, so this was tough to call. But, I have managed to finish a list that I am content with. To be clear, this list does not consist of which projects I think are greater than the others. I have assembled this list, in order, in terms of which projects were my favorites this year; these are the albums I enjoyed the most from 2013. So without further ado, the list:

1. Acid Rap (Chance The Rapper)

2. Kiss Land (The Weeknd)

3. Wolf (Tyler, The Creator)

4. Nothing Was The Same (Drake)

5. Born Sinner (J. Cole)

6. BEYONCÉ (Beyoncé)

7. The 20/20 Experience: 1 of 2 (Justin Timberlake)

8. The Electric Lady (Janelle Monáe)

9. Yeezus (Kanye West)

10. INNANETAPE (Vic Mensa)

Honorable Mentions: My Name Is My Name (Pusha T), Random Access Memories (Daft Punk), Love In The Future (John Legend)

It’s only fitting that my list began and ended with Chicago. Shout out to my city. Stay tuned for my list of top 25 songs of the year. Enjoy.

Yesterday, Drake unveiled the music video for his song, “Worst Behavior,” off of Nothing Was The Same. The video sees Director X and Drizzy teaming up once again to create a very entertaining visual. The visuals take place in Memphis and feature Drake’s dad, Project Pat, Juicy J, and more. It even features a way-too-long skit from Drake’s homies, Ryan Silverstein and “OB,” similar to the one in the “Started From The Bottom” video. It’s a dope video so you definitely want to check it out. Enjoy.

The iHeartRadio Music Festival kicked off in Las Vegas last week and Drake was included as one of the special guests. He ran through a few Take Care tracks and then preceded to run through a few of his featured verses and some tracks from Nothing Was The Same. It was a decent performance. All I’ll say is that I think he should focus on singing “Hold On, We’re Going Home” in a different key for performing live. If you’ve got 20 minutes, check it out. Enjoy.

Drake released the visuals for “Hold On, We’re Going Home,” the second single from Nothing Was The Same. He chose an interesting concept for these visuals; this isn’t quite what I was picturing when I heard the song. I dig it though, it does fit the song. I’m glad artists are at least trying to be creative with music videos nowadays. I appreciate not seeing the same old MMG style videos all the time. Shout out to the A$AP Rocky cameo haha. Enjoy.

My anticipation for Nothing Was The Same is now at an all-time high haha. I got my hands on the anticipated track, “Pound Cake/Paris Morton Music 2,” which features Jay Z for the first half. This track is incredible. Drake goes in with his first verse and Jay murders his verse, name dropping all the people that have gotten rich through him. It’s played out better than it sounds. Then Drake comes through and spits some real bars for the last half of the track. The album drops next Tuesday. Enjoy.

Drake just put on an impressive performance of a new track on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. He premiered a new track on the show called “Too Much” and it features Sampha. Sampha laid down the vocals and keys while Drake spit the verses. This was an impressive performance from the lyrics to his posture. From the flow to his passion. That second verse was fire. This is an album to be excited for. Nothing Was The Same drops on September 24th. Enjoy.
