Top 15 Albums/Mixtapes of 2015

It has been a pretty great year for hip-hop and R&B fans. Kendrick Lamar delivered yet another classic album. Dr. Dre delivered his final album and it was impressive. Janet Jackson returned with a very cohesive effort. Adele returned from her four-year hiatus to dominate the charts and that's just the beginning. As 2015 comes to an end, it is important to reflect on those projects that made a lasting impression. The following list represents my favorite hip-hop and R&B albums/mixtapes from 2015. Unlike my Top 40 list, I also tried my best to rank these albums based on their merit. I hope you enjoy the list and these projects as much as I did. I'll see you in 2016!

Miguel Releases Short Film, 'WILDHEART Chapter 1: Find What You Love and Let It Kill You'

Miguel has released a short film called WILDHEART Chapter 1: Find What You Love and Let It Kill You. The film is comprised of the three music videos for "...goingtohell," "Coffee," and "N.W.A." The film features Miguel and his lover in many passionate situations and also a cameo from West Coast rapper Kurupt. It's likely there will be more short films like this one from Miguel so stay tuned. WILDHEART is out now.

Miguel Reveals Tracklist For WILDHEART & Releases Three New Songs

Miguel's third studio album, WILDHEART, is due to be released on June 30th and Miguel has now revealed the tracklist for the project. If you preorder the album, you get three free downloads: "face the sun (feat. Lenny Kravitz)," "FLESH," and "...goingtohell." All three songs are pretty amazing; this could shape up to be Miguel's best album. Check out the tracklist below. Enjoy.

4. Coffee
5. NWA (feat. Kurupt)
6. waves
7. what's normal anyway

Miguel- "Coffee (F***ing) (feat. Wale)"

It's been about three years since Miguel released his sophomore album, Kaleidoscope Dream, so needless to say, it's time for some new music. He has now released a new version of "Coffee," a song he released last December. The new version now features a verse from Wale and this definitely raises anticipation for Miguel's upcoming album, Wild Heart. Enjoy.

Ludacris- "Good Lovin' (feat. Miguel)"

Ludacris is preparing the release of his Burning Bridges EP and has released a new Miguel-assisted track called "Good Lovin'." I've gotta say I haven't been a fan of Ludacris' latest releases over the past few years, but he never lost his lyrical gift. This song is definitely a hit and I hope this EP is a success. Enjoy.

Jessie Ware- "Kind Of...Sometimes...Maybe (Remix) (feat. J. Cole)"

Jessie Ware's newest album, Tough Love, was released on Tuesday and it's amazing; it's much better than her debut, Devotion, in my opinion and that album was great. Go out and get it if you're a fan of soulful, R&B music. She recently released the remix to her sultry, Tough Love song, "Kinda...Sometimes...Maybe." J. Cole adds a fitting verse to the beginning and then the song continues as normal. Check it out above and enjoy.

Janelle Monae and Miguel have amazing musical chemistry. Their collaboration on “Primetime,” off of The Electric Lady is wonderful. Well, now she’s released the music video for that track and it seems their chemistry on-screen is in abundance as well. The visual continues to follow the story that her albums have been following. Shout out to Wondaland, who directed the video. Check out the video above and its description below. Enjoy.

PrimeTime is a love story based on the early adventures of Cindi Mayweather (Janelle Monáe) and her first love Joey Vice (Miguel.) The Emotion Picture gives a glimpse at Cindi’s humble beginnings as a “cyber-server” at the Electric Sheep nightclub, a syn bar serving high-class “show droids” to the rich and lonely in a dangerous section of Metropolis known as Slop City. Incidentally, the innovative cybersoul music played at the club directly impacted Cindi, and she began singing and performing her own innovative compositions a short time after quitting this assignment. In addition, Cindi became determined to change the public perception of what an electric lady could be, dream and aspire to after working in the dismal conditions at the club.”

"#Beautiful (Remix) (feat. Miguel & Young Jeezy)" / "#Beautiful (Louie Vega Dance Remix)"- Mariah Carey

Mariah Carey has revealed the third and fourth remix of her Miguel-assisted hit, “#Beautiful.” The third features Young Jeezy and the fourth is a dance remix. I’m definitely feeling the Jeezy mix the best of all so far. Stay tuned for the final remix. Enjoy.

"#Beautiful (Remix) (feat. A$AP Rocky & Miguel)" / "#Beautiful / #Hermosa (Spanglish Version) (feat. Miguel)"- Mariah Carey

Mariah Carey is releasing five remixes to her Miguel-assisted summer hit, “#Beautiful.” The first two have surfaced. The first features a verse from A$AP Rocky, while the second is a “spanglish version” where Miguel and Mariah sing the song in both Spanish and English. Enjoy and stay tuned for the next three remixes.
