Top 15 Albums/Mixtapes of 2015

It has been a pretty great year for hip-hop and R&B fans. Kendrick Lamar delivered yet another classic album. Dr. Dre delivered his final album and it was impressive. Janet Jackson returned with a very cohesive effort. Adele returned from her four-year hiatus to dominate the charts and that's just the beginning. As 2015 comes to an end, it is important to reflect on those projects that made a lasting impression. The following list represents my favorite hip-hop and R&B albums/mixtapes from 2015. Unlike my Top 40 list, I also tried my best to rank these albums based on their merit. I hope you enjoy the list and these projects as much as I did. I'll see you in 2016!

To hear me talk about these projects in detail, check out Episode 18 of my podcast!

Lupe Fiasco has revealed a NSFW video for his track, "Adoration Of the Magi." As usual, Lupe delivers some creative, thought-provoking visuals. The video plays out in a strip club where many unusual patrons come to see the show. Check out the video above. Enjoy.

Watch Lupe Fiasco Perform "Little Death" on The Tonight Show

Lupe Fiasco appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon to perform his song "Little Death" featuring Nikki Jean off his latest album, Tetsuo & Youth. It was a pretty nice performance as Lupe was backed up by The Roots. Check it out above and enjoy.

Lupe Fiasco- "Adoration Of The Magi (feat. Crystal Torres)"

Lupe's Tetsuo & Youth album is shaping up to be pretty amazing. He has revealed a new track from the album called "Adoration Of The Magi." The Crystal Torres-assisted track finds Lupe at his lyrical best. A quick analysis of the hook shows that each line references an album that features a baby depicted in the album cover.

"Why you ready to die? You just a baby
Why them tears up under your eyes? You just a baby
Keep your head up in the sky, you just a baby
Quit chasing money, never mind, you just a baby
(These Maji adore you)x2
Why you wanna be born again? You just a baby
Why you playing in the streets? You just a baby"

Lupe is back. T & Y drops on January 20th. Enjoy.

Lupe Fiasco- "Deliver (feat. Ty Dolla $ign)" (Music Video)

Lupe Fiasco has delivered (no pun intended) a very compelling music video for his Ty Dolla $ign-assisted track, "Deliver," off of his upcoming album, Tetsuo & Youth. The video depicts a story paralleled by the theme of the song where pizza restaurants do not deliver to certain neighborhoods because of how dangerous they are. As always, Lupe delivers some thought-provoking material. Tetsuo & Youth drops on January 20th. Enjoy.

Lupe Fiasco- "Haile Selassie (feat. Nikki Jean)"

Lupe Fiasco liberated another track from his upcoming mixtape, Lost In The Atlantic Ocean. The track, "Haile Selassie," features Nikki Jean and showcases Lupe spitting some solid verses over a relaxed beat. This project seems like it's shaping up to be pretty dope. Stay tuned and enjoy.

Also go here to check out another new Lupe track, "Mazinger."

Lupe Fiasco- "Lilies (feat. Sirah)"

Lupe Fiasco has liberated the first track from his upcoming mixtape, Lost in The Atlantic Ocean. "Lilies" features Sirah and strongly resembles the sound he invoked on his Lasers album. Hopefully this upcoming project serves to keep Lupe's buzz alive because I want to see him get back to the top. Enjoy.

Lupe Fiasco has decided to quit freestyling on radio shows and that’s because he delivered one of the best freestyles ever when he recently visited Sway In The Morning. It was genuinely off the top and he SLAYED. Check out his reasoning below:

Enjoy.

UPDATE: He delivered one more freestyle.

"Thot 97"- Lupe Fiasco

Lupe Fiasco stays trolling the game lol at least I hope that’s what this is. He dropped off a song called “Thot 97,” a combination of ‘That Hoe Over There’ and ‘Hot 97.’ It’s a completely different style from Lupe over a nice trap beat. It seems Lupe is just playing around nowadays showing rappers he can replicate their styles and do it better than them. While it’s entertaining, just drop some real rap, Lupe. Enjoy.

Albums To Anticipate In 2014

I made this list for last year and it went over well so let’s do it again! There honestly is a lot less to anticipate this year since last year’s musical output was so amazing, but the game is full of surprises, so I don’t count anyone out. Enjoy.
