Top Dawg Announces TDE's Album Releases For 2016

Shit about to get nasty real soon... I told y'all I got y'all in 2016 #TDE

TDE's Top Dawg has revealed the album release schedule for 2016 and it looks like every TDE artist is planning on releasing an album this year. The schedule also notes that two unknown artists on TDE will be releasing music this year so it seems the rap collective has a lot of surprises in store for us.

Top Dawg also announced that he will be releasing a TDE project this week. It could be ScHoolboy Q's project as he is at the top of the schedule, but I'm not sure. Either way, TDE is ready to take over 2016. Check it out above.

Isaiah Rashad- "Nelly"

Isaiah Rashad released an amazing project, Cilvia Demo, shortly after signing with TDE and we haven't really heard from him since. Despite his feature on Jay Rock's latest album, there hasn't been any music from Isaiah since he dropped his project. Well that's all changed. He has now released a new song, "Nelly." The track sees Isaiah picking up right where he left off on Cilvia Demo as he flows in and out of singing and rapping over smooth production. This is possibly the first single from the new project that is supposed to be released by the end of the year. Fingers crossed.

Top 15 Albums/Mixtapes of 2014

It's that time again. 2014 is nearing its end and so I must deliver my list of the top albums and mixtapes from this past year. Last year, I listed ten projects but I could have done a top ten list of R&B albums alone, so this year I decided to increase the list to 15. I must mention that this list does not signify what 15 projects were the absolute best projects of 2014. This list signifies the top 15 projects, in order, that I enjoyed the most in 2014. These are my favorite albums of 2014.

It's hard to be objective when it comes to music because music means something different to everyone that hears it. I can feel something in an album that someone else may not have gotten and that is why I treat this list the way I do. For example, I chose Chance The Rapper's Acid Rap as my favorite project from 2013. 2013 gave us albums from Drake, J. Cole, Kanye, and so much more. But, I'm a Chicago kid and Chance delivered that album from a perspective with which I could completely relate. It was musically brilliant and conceptually amazing. It was not hard to unequivocally choose Acid Rap as my favorite project last year. This year delivered even more solid albums and so now I give you my list.

1. 2014 Forest Hills Drive- J. Cole

2. Cadillactica- Big K.R.I.T.

3. Turn Blue- The Black Keys

4. Days Before Rodeo- Travi$ Scott

5. Oxymoron- ScHoolboy Q

6. Black Messiah- D'Angelo

7. Tough Love- Jessie Ware

8. Cilvia Demo- Isaiah Rashad

9. G  I  R  L- Pharrell Williams

10. Souled Out- Jhené Aiko

11. X- Chris Brown

12. In the Lonely Hour- Sam Smith

13. LP1- FKA twigs

14. The London Sessions- Mary J. Blige

15. Nobody's Smiling- Common

Honorable Mentions: Trigga- Trey Songz, Run The Jewels 2- Run the Jewels, Faces- Mac Miller, Z- SZA

Oh! Shout out to Childish Gambino's Because The Internet. It dropped shortly before I made last year's list and didn't make the cut because I hadn't had the time to truly appreciate it. But it deserved to make the list.

XXL 2014 Freshman Class Roundtable (Parts 1 & 2)

The XXL Freshman Class Roundtable discussions are one of my favorite parts of the XXL season. Featured above are parts 1 (Kevin Gates, Chance The Rapper, Vic Mensa, Isaiah Rashad & August Alsina) and 2 (Rich Homie Quan, Ty Dolla $ign & Lil Durk). They all discuss hip-hop and how it is categorized in the media and otherwise and how they view hip-hop. Stay tuned for updates on the last installment. Enjoy.

XXL just dropped off Part 1 of their 2014 Freshman Class Cyphers. Part 1 sees Kevin Gates and Vic Mensa dropping some verses to start with DJ Drama on the beat. August Alsina then drops a hook which is something new to the cyphers as they’ve added R&B artists this year. Isaiah Rashad and Chance the Rapper then finish the cypher off. It was decent. I’d have to go with Vic and Isaiah as my favorites. Enjoy.

XXL revealed their 2014 Freshman Class today and it’s full of recognizable names. The list consists of Chance The Rapper, Rich Homie Quan, Isaiah Rashad, Ty Dolla $ign, Lil Durk, Kevin Gates, Troy Ave, Vic Mensa, Lil Bibby, Jon Connor, Jarren Benton (People’s Choice) and August Alsina. They switched things up and added R&B to this year’s list and I’m ok with that. I’m gonna go ahead and endorse Chance, Vic, August, Isaiah, and Jon Connor. I’ll continue my regular routine and pretend all the other artists don’t exist. Even though I don’t mess with anything Lil Durk does, it’s good to see four Chicago artists on the list. Can’t wait for the cyphers and roundtables. Enjoy.
