Mick Jenkins-"Get Up Get Down" (Music Video)

Chicago rapper Mick Jenkins has delivered a pretty dope music video for his track, "Get Up Get Down." The video features three kids dancing and having fun while strolling through Chicago. This is the first video from Mick's project, Wave[s], and it's a great one. Check out what Mick had to say about the video below.

Get up is a charge to get out and do something. To make people put action behind their words. Thats what the kids are doing in the video and I hope it comes across and be understood that way.

Vic Mensa- "All That Shines"

Vic Mensa has been releasing a new song every week and this week is no different. He has released a new track, "All That Shines," and it's pretty impressive. It reminds me of a Kanye track from back in the day. The beat is synth-driven and Vic flows on top effortlessly and showcases his singing voice as well. It's a nice track that shows how versatile Vic can be. His new project—Traffic—should be dropping soon.

The O'My's- "Piano Wu (feat. Donnie Trumpet, Saba, Zack Wicks, IceFace & Satellite View)

This is a Chicago affair. Chi-Town band, The O'My's, linked up with a slew of Chicago artists to create "Piano Wu," a track that showcases so many different styles. This is what happens when many creative minds get together to collaborate. It's a dope song and you should check each of these artists out.

Eryn Allen Kane- "Have Mercy"

Eryn Allen Kane is a Chicago singer who has been featured on Donnie Trumpet & The Social Experiment's "Sunday Candy" and Towkio's recent track, "Heaven Only Knows." Well, now she's releasing her own project and has revealed the first single, "Have Mercy." The track is absolutely beautiful. Eryn has a striking, amazing voice and you can hear the soul and passion she brings to her music. I am beyond excited for her upcoming project. Check out her YouTube channel here. Enjoy.

Wale Brings Out Chance the Rapper in Chicago

Wale brought his "Simply Nothing" tour to the House of Blues in Chicago last Friday. He performed his Chance the Rapper-assisted track, "Friendship Heights," off of Festivus and brought Chance out to perform it with him. They delivered a solid performance, but then it got a little confusing toward the end. Check it out above and enjoy.

Check Out Austin Vesely & The Social Experiment's Short Film, "SoX Day"

Austin Vesely is a very talented director; he has directed many projects and videos for a lot of Chicago artists and members of the SAVEMONEY crew. He recently released a short film called "SoX Day," a film he crafted from footage of Chance the Rapper & The Social Experiment as they went on tour. It's a very entertaining and enlightening look into the lives of these artists when they're not on stage. Enjoy.

Common has revealed the music video for his Nobody’s Smiling single, “Kingdom.” It was directed by Hype Williams. The Vince Staples-assisted track is pretty dope, but I feel like the video was disjointed. I wasn’t really too sure what was happening and what was connected to what. People have been saying that Hype Williams has lost his touch and maybe it’s true. Anyway, Nobody’s Smiling is set to drop on July 22nd. Enjoy.

Als, check out Common talking about the inspiration and making of the track here.

"Realer Than Most"- Mick Jenkins, Saba, Dally Austin & NoName Gypsy

It was a Chicago affair when Closed Sessions got Mick Jenkins, Dally Austin, Saba and NoName Gypsy together to collaborate on “Realer Than Most.” It’s pretty cool to hear promising Chicago rappers collaborate and show some creativity opposed to the Chicago rappers that just rap about gangs and violence. Shout out to these four. Enjoy.

"Chi-Raq"- Nicki Minaj

I don’t really approve of any songs or anything referring to Chicago as Chi-Raq; doesn’t seem like something people from our city should be hyping up, much less people who AREN’T EVEN FROM CHICAGO (I’m looking at you Nicki.) Anyway, Nicki Minaj released a new track called “Chi-Raq” which features Chi-Town artist Lil Herb. It features Nicki rapping with a fire under her belly. If I can take anything positive from this, it’s that her upcoming album, The Pink Print, seems like it will feature the Nicki Minaj we’ve all been waiting for and not the pop-influenced on we’ve gotten. Enjoy. (*shrugs*)

Childish Gambino’s Deep Web Tour hit Chi-Town on Wednesday and ‘Bino started freestyling toward the end of it. The impromptu session featured Steve G and then Chance The Rapper came out to join in. This was pretty awesome just to see on video so I bet it was dope live. ‘Bino flexed his vocal range while all three showed off their ability to rhyme off the top. Enjoy.

WorldStarHipHop premiered a very interesting documentary last month. The Field: Chicago explores the violence in Chicago from the perspective of many of Chicago’s hottest artists. This honestly just makes me feel worse about my city. It just hits so close to home, figuratively and literally. Just seeing their mindsets and how they view things is scary. It makes you wonder if things will ever get better.

"When all you see is negativity, that’s what you gon’ gravitate to…"

How can you not love this guy? Above is footage from when Chance The Rapper performed in Chicago during his “Social Experiment Tour.” He delivered a very impressive performance of “Interlude (That’s Love),” a track from Acid Rap. His stage presence is phenomenal and this was one of the better performances I’ve seen from him. He was backed up by Nico Segal, Nate Fox, Greg Landfair, and Peter Cottontale. Enjoy.
