Jamila Woods- "LSD (feat. Chance The Rapper)"

Jamila Woods has released a new song that sees her teaming up with Chance The Rapper for another beautiful collaboration. The song showcases Jamila's amazing vocals and Chance adds a pretty dope verse to top it off. Listen closely as they deliver a hopeful song dedicated to their hometown, Chicago. There's no way you can stand still while listening to this. Chicago, stand up!

Music Video: Francis and the Lights- "Friends (feat. Bon Iver & Kanye West)"

Francis and the Lights released a new music video today for their song, "Friends." The visuals feature Kanye West and Bon Iver, who also appears in the song. Chance The Rapper has been promoting the video heavily since last night, leading many to think the music video for "Summer Friends" would be released today. You can see the confusion as Francis and the Lights were featured on that song from Chance's Coloring Book project. I was definitely confused haha. However, the video is pretty dope and you can definitely see the effects of a Kanye West-directed video. The minimalistic visuals are right up his alley. As for the song, it sounds very similar to Francis' contributions to "Summer Friends;" it's possible it stemmed from the same studio session? Either way, it's fresh as hell.

Edit: Francis sampled his song "Friends" to create his part on Chance's "Summer Friends." Mystery solved.

Kanye West- "Champions (feat. Quavo, Travi$ Scott, 2 Chainz, Desiigner, Gucci Mane, Big Sean & Yo Gotti)

Kanye West recently released the first single from the (upcoming?) G.O.O.D. Music compilation album, Cruel Winter. The song, "Champions," features West himself along with Quavo, Travi$ Scott, 2 Chainz, Desiigner, Gucci Mane, Big Sean, and Yo Gotti. The CDQ version is now available on Apple Music and you can check out the song above.

Allow Me To Reintroduce Myself...

So, I took a long break from Hope For Hip-Hop, long enough that I feel the need to address my followers before jumping back into the swing of things. Between going to school for a MS degree, work, podcasting, and everything else, it became impossible to keep up. But I'm back and so is the blog. During my two month absence, we received projects from Beyoncé, Chance The Rapper, James Blake, JMSN, Vic Mensa, Drake, and we lost a legend: Prince. 2016 has been a very busy year for music. Before returning to business as usual, I want to share with you Gallant's performance of "Weight In Gold" on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon because it's pretty phenomenal. Also, this track that didn't make Chance The Rapper's latest project. Let's get it.

Kid Cudi- "The Frequency"

Kid Cudi has released a new song that will be well-received by any fans itching for some of that "old Cudi." "The Frequency" was produced by Kid Cudi, Plain Pat, and Mike Dean and is very reminiscent of the style Cudi invoked in his first two albums and the mixtapes before them. In light of his latest rock album—Speedin' Bullet 2 Heaven—it's always good to hear this Cudi.

Music Video: Hundred Waters- "Show Me Love (Skrillex Remix) (feat. Chance The Rapper, Moses Sumney & Robin Hannibal)"

Indie rock band, Hundred Waters, have released the music video for the 'Skrillex Remix' of their song, "Show Me Love." The remix features a dope verse from Chance The Rapper and you can peep the video above.

JMSN- "Cruel Intentions (Remix) (feat. Snoh Aalegra)"

JMSN's most recent single, "Cruel Intentions" is fire all on its own, but he just added an amazing artist to the remix. Snoh Aalegra, a Swedish artist and No I.D.'s current protégé, has been added to the song and she absolutely kills it. She's a great addition and takes the song to the next level. Her mini-album—Don't Explain— is set to drop on April 8th while JMSN's album—It Is.— will be released on May 6th.

dvsn Announces Album Release Date, Tracklist & Album Art

The rumors are true. The mysterious R&B group, dvsn, have signed to the OVO Sound label and are releasing their debut album—Sept. 5th. The album will feature 10 songs, including the four songs they've released already, "The Line," "With Me," "Hallucinations," and "Too Deep." The album drops on April 1st, so pre-order the album and check out the tracklist here. I am very excited because I think the ceiling for this group is very high.

Complex City Cyphers: Episode 1 (feat. Wiki, Your Old Droog, A$AP Ferg & Christian Scott)

Complex has started a series called Complex City Cyphers where they travel to a different city every episode and collaborate with local musicians there in the form of live cyphers. The pilot episode takes place in Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn where, assisted by a live band, Grammy-nominated jazz musician Christian Scott provides the music for a cypher with Wiki, Your Old Droog, and A$AP Ferg. Top Dawg Announces TDE's Album Releases For 2016

Shit about to get nasty real soon... I told y'all I got y'all in 2016 #TDE

A photo posted by gwadpot (@dangerookipawaa) on

TDE's Top Dawg has revealed the album release schedule for 2016 and it looks like every TDE artist is planning on releasing an album this year. The schedule also notes that two unknown artists on TDE will be releasing music this year so it seems the rap collective has a lot of surprises in store for us.

Top Dawg also announced that he will be releasing a TDE project this week. It could be ScHoolboy Q's project as he is at the top of the schedule, but I'm not sure. Either way, TDE is ready to take over 2016. Check it out above.

Rihanna Performs "Consideration" and "Work (feat. Drake)" at The BRIT Awards 2016

Rihanna is enjoying a lot of success from her eighth studio album, Anti. She took the stage at The BRIT Awards 2016 to perform the opening track, "Consideration" and also the hit single, "Work." Drake joined her on the stage for the latter and they picked up right where they left off from the music videos. Check out the performance above.

Music Video: Rihanna- "Work (feat. Drake)"

Rihanna and Drake have had amazing chemistry for a long time now and they've showcased it in videos like "What's My Name?" and "Take Care." Well, now they've added two more videos to that list. Rihanna has finally revealed the anticipated video for her Drake-assisted single, "Work." The video comes in the form of two videos: the first is a turnt up twerk party directed by Director X, a frequent Drake collaborator, and the second keeps it a little more sensual in visuals directed by Tim Erem. Both videos are amazing and see Drake and Rihanna getting very close; check the videos out above. Anti is in stores now.

40 Sheds Some Light on 'Views From The 6'

Noah "40" Shebib, Drake's longtime friend and producer, sat down with The New York Times last week to discuss Drake's upcoming album—Views From the 6. Check out the interview here and read a portion of it below.

“It’s going to be what everybody expects and wants from Drake and from us,” Mr. Shebib said. “A lot of introspection, very vivid. He’s discovering new flows, new cadences, new patterns.” As for the music, “I’m trying to find ways to pull more untraditional sounds in, to push the boundaries a little further.” The overall approach may be the same as the one that the duo has finely honed, but still, Mr. Shebib said, “Something about it should be special.”

Kendrick Lamar Delivers An Amazing GRAMMY Performance

The night was set up to be an amazing one for Kendrick Lamar. After losing Best Rap Album, Best Rap Performance, and Best New Artist to Macklemore & Ryan Lewis just two years prior, it seemed the Recording Academy was out to set things right. Kendrick was nominated for 11 awards at this year's GRAMMY awards, the second most nominations for an artist in one night since Michael Jackson. Kendrick ended up winning 5 GRAMMYs, sweeping the rap categories and winning a GRAMMY for Best Music Video via Taylor Swift's "Bad Blood" video. But, that wasn't the most impressive thing Kendrick did last night.

The internet was buzzing, wondering what Kendrick would do for his GRAMMY performance and he did not disappoint. He came out in chains, dressed in prison clothes, followed in a straight line by other prisoners. His band was surrounded by prison bars. The silence that ensued while he awkwardly wrapped his chains around the mic stand so he could hold the mic gave us just enough time to realize this would not be your average performance.

He began to perform "The Blacker The Berry," a song that aggressively addresses the white community but also delivers a strong message to the black community. He transitions into a fiery performance of "Alright" and then performs "Untitled 3." Kendrick has become a fantastic live performer, one that seems to save some of his most dynamic, in-your-face songs strictly for live performances; more specifically, live performances in front of a white audience.

This performance was full of tribal African imagery, African traditional dancing, and was the most powerful Kendrick performance I've ever seen. There was bravery in this performance, standing in front of a predominantly white organization and audience and using his platform to deliver this politically charged, heart-filled, black message. Between this performance and Beyoncé's "Formation" release and performance, it's clear the black community is not about to take society's treatment lying down.

All hail, King Kendrick.

Kanye West Tweets Final Tracklist For 'The Life of Pablo'

That's right; Kanye has changed the name of his album again. For what it's worth, this seems to be the last time. It is now called The Life of Pablo, which seems to be a nod to Pablo Picasso, although it could be a different one. Kanye has also tweeted out the final tracklist for the album, which you can view above. TLOP drops tomorrow.
